Isaac "westmenloAA" Takes 2007 OPOY Award

January 3, 2008

It has been a great race for the Card Player Online Player of the Year (OPOY) title this year. It started with the top two contenders each winning a PokerStars Sunday Million tournament in January and ended with a win just 8 days before the end of the year.

Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron finally took the OPOY title over Matt "ch0ppy" Kay by only 26 points. Baron took the lead with a win at the PokerStars $200 rebuy right before Christmas. All Kay had to do in the final week of 2007 to retake the lead was to money in almost any OPOY qualified event.

Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi, finished in third place but needed a lot of good finishes to take the lead. There would be no last second drama though and Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron finished the year atop the OPOY leader board.

From the start the competition was tight with Kay, Baron, Mizzi and a host of other online poker players taking a turn at the top position. For Baron though it was the perfect end to an incredible year.

As mentioned, it started with a win in January of the $500 buy-in PokerStars Sunday Million and earning $255,000 for the effort. Along the way to the OPOY title he earned a total of $1,036,452 amassing a resume of 37 top-20 finishes, 20 final tables and won seven events. This would include a total of 18 cashes for at least five figures all in just OPOY qualified events.
