Online Poker Bill Passed That Restricts Play

October 5, 2006

Recently, the Senate passed the Safe Port Act, and online poker play was severely restricted in the US.  You may be wondering, "How does a Safe Port act have anything to do with online gambling?"  Well, it doesn't, but regardless, the amendment was attached to the bill right before it's passing.

Online poker was not specifically banned in the US.  Moreover, the bill attempts to prevent banks from making transactions to poker sites, and possibly third party transaction services such as Neteller.

The real harm from this bill is that online poker sites are willingly blocking US players.  Sites such as Party Poker, Titan Poker, and Pacific Poker will be dropping US players as soon as the bill is signed by the President.  This signing is expected within the next week.

So is online poker doomed?  Not by any means.  One site that is allowing US players for the mean time is Full Tilt Poker. Visit Full Tilt Poker Here
