Multi Tabling at Ring Games
If and only if you are already a winning online poker player should you consider playing multiple cash tables at the same time. Why? Well, if you aren’t a winning poker player while only playing one table then your losses will only increase since you are now less focused on each table. When you play only one table you can focus on that table only and it is easier and quicker to get to know the players at your table.
Now, if you are a winning poker player and would like to get a little more action, then multi-tabling is perfect for you. You should work your way up from one, starting at two and then three if you feel comfortable. Sometimes you will hear of people playing 4-8 tables, which I would never suggest.
Like always, you must be prepared to have your off times. I’m sure you’ve had a bad day playing one table, losing for whatever reason. So, even when multi-tabling, will have an off day/time and lose at every table. Just don’t let that discourage you. No one wins all the time. On the other hand, there will be more times that you will be winning on all tables, which is always a bonus. But in general, as a winning poker player your hourly rate will just increase from playing multiple tables.
Advantages:
One huge advantage of playing multiple tables is that since you will be dealt more hands, it will be easier to be patient to wait for the hands that you like to play. However, if something happens to go wrong on a couple of tables at the same time you have to make sure that this doesn’t make you go on tilt.
The biggest advantage of playing multiple tables is that you will increase your hourly rate. Playing 3 tables doesn’t necessarily mean that you will make 3 times the amount that you make at one table. As long as your play the same way as when you play one table, your winnings should increase dramatically.
Disadvantages:
Of course there has to be come disadvantages to playing more than one table. One disadvantage is rushing decisions. If you have hands on more than one table, you may not be able to think about your decision as long as you would like and you may not have had to time to get to know how that opponent plays.
Another problem that occurs on occasion if you’re not careful is accidentally pushing the wrong button; fold, call, or raise. Sometimes you maybe be clicking a button on one table and then another pops up and you accidentally hit it on that table. So, make sure that your tales are spread out so that the buttons won’t be on top of each other if they happen to pop up unexpectedly.

So, the bottom line is that you will have to pay full attention to your tables, following each one even when it’s not your turn. What I like to do if I need to make a decision is quickly press the “request time” button and quickly glance over the other tables to see what my hand situation is and then go straight back to the table to think about my decision. However, this is just how I personally handle this. Every time will develop their own method of handling these situations. Like everything, the more you do it, the easier it will come.
