North American College Poker Championship
November 20, 2007
The University Poker Championship is underway at Pokerstars for US college students; the contest is open only to registered United States or Canadian college or university students.
The North American College Poker Championship is an online Texas Hold 'em No Limit poker tournament aimed to name the best college no limit player and use poker to help fund the student’s higher education costs. In April 2008 only one student will claim the title of "The Best College Poker Player in North America".
This event is free to enter for all post secondary students (IN the U.S. and Canada). There is no purchase required to compete in the North American College Poker Championship. There will be 24 qualifiers and the top three will advance to the final tournament. The winner of the tournament will not only win the title but also win a grand prize of a year's tuition (up to $9,000) and a trip to play in a PokerStars European Poker Tour event, plus travel expenses.
There will also be a UK version of the event. This event will be held at Cake Poker that are set up the same way with free qualifiers and a main tournament. The winner will win a year’s tuition and trip valued at $12,000 and a seat at the 2008 World Series of Poker.
Pokerstars spokeswoman Carly Sawers says, "We're excited to be involved in this event because it offers students an opportunity to further their education with the free tuition and also provides them with a chance to visit Europe and play in an event on the European Poker Tour."
The Championship games start the first week in November and will continue with 24 weeks of qualifying tournaments where the top three finishers from each week will advance to the Online Finals which will be played in March 2008. The last poker player standing wins the Championship and the great prizes that go with it.
